She's a multifaceted young wife and mother who made some interesting career moves, constantly testing the waters in different fields before she went on to start Asian Roots, which is a popular spa in Delhi and much visited one at that, by the who's who of the capital.
Changing avatars every couple of years is what makes Kamayani Kanwar tick. She could have been practicing law but after her apprenticeship with lawyer Mahesh Jethmalani, she decided to move on.
Then came modeling but soon she discovered the performer in her and that's how India's first all-girl band 'Models' came to life. After a fairly successful run on the pop charts, Kamayani bid adieu to 'Models and began phase three of a fairly eventful life.
She's married to Raaja Kanwar, son of Apollo Tyres tycoon Onkar Kanwar, it seemed fairly natural for Kamayani to discover her entrepreneurial side. Her focus, women on the move, pretty much like herself and that's how the Asian Roots spa was born.
With an investment of a crore and a state-of-the-art equipment, soundproof rooms and qualified professionals, Asian Roots hopes to blend the glamour of the West with traditions of the East. With one outlet under her belt, Kamayani wants to take tentative and measured steps toward wanting more and making sure she gets it.
The transformation from businesswoman to supermom happened with ease. A regular day means teaching yoga, managing her spa and nurturing her family but this spunky young woman wants more. She's set herself a target of five months before her next big leap.
The lure of arclights is nothing new and many young people have been tempted to try their luck in show business. Film editor, Arif Sheikh is another young person with the desire to make films but not in front of the camera but behind it.
In his spare time, one is likely to catch Arif Sheikh at a movie with family and friends. His passion for cinema has now translated to a profession, as Arif turned film editor in 2000. Though his brother is a film choreographer, it was only by accident that Arif entered the film business himself.
Arif's film career started as an assistant promotions editor and then assistant editor to Chandan Arora. Though he's worked on films like Makdee and Maqbool, it was the film Samay which didn't set the box office on fire despite Sushmita Sen's very competent performance as a smart, top cop. This is the film that ironically, got him noticed and now his current assignments include American Daylight and promos for Mangal Pandey.
After all his years of struggle, the rewards are coming to him and he feels it's now worth it. Like any other person in the film world, who had tasted success, for Arif the next step is making a film of his own and this is a project he's very tightlipped about.
